SUMMARY: The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts' (AOIC) Judicial Management Information Services Division (JMIS) is seeking an Information Systems Technical Consultant to provide hardware, software, and technical support to judicial and administrative offices. The position will be based in the City of Chicago, but will require frequent travel throughout Cook County and the state, including to the Springfield AOIC office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Information Systems Technical Consultant position is responsible for a wide range of technologies and functions including the configuration and installation of computers, software, printers, scanners, and other computing accessories. This position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to solve complex issues, the ability to prioritize multiple projects, strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to adapt to dynamic work assignments. Work may include cabling, basic networking tasks, server software administration, audio/video systems, and detailed work with numerous technology partners. Frequent in-person and telephone contact with employees is required. Duties vary day-to-day and may involve structured problem diagnosis and resolution, timely completion of tasks and procedures, ability to follow detailed instructions, working with other JMIS staff on technology projects in Chicago and throughout the state.

  • Highly experienced with desktop and laptop computers, internal computer components, printers and other accessories.
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows 10 operating systems and installation and configuration of computer software systems.  
  • Detail oriented and disciplined in problem diagnostics and problem resolution, which minimizes user downtime.
  • Knowledge of server hardware, storage systems, and event and system log monitoring.
  • Experienced in local and wide area networking, TCP/IP, computer and audio/video cabling, Wi-Fi networks, backup and restoration practices, and computer and cyber security.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, project and time management skills.
  • Hands-on experience with the Office 365 suite, including high knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. 
  • Knowledge and experience with mobile devices and integrating apps with computer software.
  • The ability to produce and modify technical documentation. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The successful candidate must possess strong oral and written communication skills and excellent project and time management skills, be detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize daily tasks, have the ability to accurately record assets and licensing information, and consistently follow procedures and ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner. The ability to work alone, with colleagues, and with third-party service providers is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Work is generally performed in a professional office working environment.  This position requires the ability to lift and move servers, storage systems, computers, monitors, and computer accessories. Applicant must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record. Applicant must have the ability to work additional hours and travel, including overnight stays, as required.
