REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Administrative Director  

The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Court Services.  This position will be based in Springfield or Chicago.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  This highly responsible administrative position manages the Court Services Division of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.  Under the general supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director of the Court Services Division recruits, develops and manages a diverse professional staff who are responsible for a wide range of programs, projects and activities which involve Supreme Court committees and commissions, Judicial Conference committees, the Conference of Chief Circuit Judges, judges, circuit court clerks and trial court administrators.  The Division is organized into three operational units: the Courts, Children and Families Unit, the Special Programs Unit and the Recordkeeping & Technology Unit.  Each unit provides lead staff or technical assistance to the trial courts in areas such as: court-annexed mandatory arbitration, emergency preparedness and continuity of operations, electronic business policies, programs, and practices, trial court recordkeeping and caseload statistics, judicial performance, the Federal Court Improvement Program, language access, legislation, and annual publications of the judicial branch. 

The position provides ongoing support to the Director in the development and implementation of policies and practices which affect the role and function of the Illinois Judicial Branch including, but not limited to, the study and preparation of agenda items for the Supreme Court's administrative agenda; working with the legislative and executive branches and other governmental and private entities to advance the Court's goals and priorities; and the establishment of appropriate and effective relationships with the circuit courts to carry out the Court's policies and programs.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires a minimum of seven years of experience, preferably at a senior management level in court administration.  Preferred candidates will demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the Illinois Judicial Branch and the functions of the Illinois courts at all levels. Interested individuals should also have a working knowledge of the national landscape of state courts and fundamental principles, concepts, and operations of judicial and court administration.  Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated leadership in personnel and project management.  Preferred candidates will demonstrate competencies in strategic thinking, strong analytical skills, and the ability to identify emerging issues.  A professional or advanced degree is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to sit for extended time periods. Professional office working environment requiring telephone usage and ability to process written and electronic documents.  Must be able to obtain a valid Illinois driver's license and be able to travel frequently statewide. Some out-of-state overnight travel may be required.
